A great break from writing with writing… Even for a 400 year old vampire!

If you are reading this post on Twisted50, you are most likely a writer, whether an aspiring writer or a 400-year-old vampire writer with 300 years of experience; it doesn’t really matter – we all love the same thing and experience similar pains.
I had never participated in a short story competition before, and, to my surprise, I found this to be extremely stimulating. This Create50 initiative gave me the slap that I needed to take a small break from a long project I was working on and start thinking of fresh new ideas.
A friend (writer) recommended this competition to my partner (another writer), who suggested it to me (this writer). Initially, I was reluctant. I was too absorbed in this other project to even consider shifting my attention elsewhere – we all know how it can be when you are too deep in a story – until my partner wrote the first short story for the competition, then the second, then the third, and he challenged me to try and write a first draft in one evening.
I wrote my first short story for Twisted50 in an evening and then spent an hour here and there polishing it up. Then I wrote another one.
This is a great community; you can always benefit from the additional exercise, the feedback is almost immediate, and the whole process doesn’t require much of your time.
I wish all breaks from writing were like this one. Looking forward to the next Create50 challenge!
