My reasons for writing for Twisted50, By Simon Richardson

Although not professionally, I have been writing all my life. Mainly poetry, but also some scripted dialogue in recent years. 

I’ve received good constructive feedback for my writing, and I’m keen to challenge myself and expand my range. Having recently tested the waters of writing sci fi, when I saw an email advertising Twisted50, and decided horror writing would be a fantastic next challenge.

I am fan of writers such as Edgar Allen Poe and H.P Lovecraft, and the shadowy world propounded in their work What lies beyond our life and reality has a certain mystique

With that in mind, I thought I would leave the traditional image of ghouls and vampires to those more qualified to write them. I’m a spiritual man, and interested in the influence of light and darkness over human nature so created my first horror story with this in mind.

“The Night” is a reflective story with a subliminal effect of the horror motif: death is an unknown transition that respects no man. 

Listening to the supportive comments of your writers I’ve reshaped the story in places to balance the storyline. Pacing the metaphysical element in the narrative was not easy in the word count allowed, but I hope to have created an original format that works as much for the reader as for me.
