Unleashed, Uncut and Demented… I Loved Writing For Twisted50 by Debbie Croysdale

It was a blast being part of “Twisted” for the first time. Wish I’d stumbled upon this community sooner.  It’s an amazing zone for writers who are not afraid to push the boundaries and I experienced a sense of freedom of expression knowing I’d not be judged or advised to censor myself.

Edgy and infinite in variety the stories show superb imagination. A smorgasbord of horror delight bites “Twisted” truly fills any craving for the genre.  Vanilla free Twisted is not for the feint hearted.  These fearless writers throw the reader into sinister alternate worlds, twilight zones or subvert their expectations of a normal day in an ordinary world.  I certainly hope this maverick and shared experience that is open to all writers will evolve to become a “Twisted” festival in several countries. 

Well done and big shout for Chris. His bold art work with mind provoking visuals truly captured the essence of each individual author’s input.                          

Thanks too to all who read/gave input to my stories. Was so cool to hook up with like minded people.

I write horror mainly for a terrifying roller coaster ride or a dark journey that perturbs mind body and soul but it can also provide black humour by mirroring the absurdity of life.               

On another level “fictional” horror can provide a brief diversion from mind numbing sordid actuality. The daily news of war, injustice, crime, global catastrophe and diseases seems a reality horror series.    I’ve a strong social conscience but no longer watch it in daily repetitive doses and thus avoid constant bombardment of bad karma several times a day. Give me instead a zombie friend in the garden, the haunted mansion, the psycho killer dust bin or the slasher vibrator.  These addictive short story books are great to pick up and put down at any given moment. More please?

In the 90’s I studied the classics obtaining numerous writing diplomas including Guildhall but entered this genre late and writing now is often a cathartic release. Whatever life throws I have my final say on the page. A few scripts are in development and a couple of shorts/POC’S are being filmed.

I advise writers not to hold back and don’t wait for other people’s permission to self publish work.  Our own individual blueprint can blaze a trail in the ether long after the last cell in our body has broken down.  Never let life get in the way. Carry on with the work. It’s here when we’re gone.
