Why I wrote a horror story…and why you should as well!

As someone who usually writes comedy screenplays, writing a short horror story is very much out of my comfort zone.

That is precisely why I decided to take part in Twisted 50.

Obviously, the thought of potentially seeing your name in print, should your story be one of the 50 selected for the book, is a huge incentive, but Twisted 50 is so much more than your standard writing competition.

It’s a community of writers, who support each other, give feedback on each other’s work, help each other, and elevate each other’s work.

For each story submitted, you are asked to read and review at least two stories, but you cannot stop there. You want to read more and more.

There are so many voices, ideas, stories, characters and writers to discover.

Knowing that your constructive feedback could help make someone’s story better, or give someone confidence, is one of my favourite things about this project.

The feedback I received helped me immensely, and I am now confident enough to submit my final draft.

We did it together, in a way. We built each other up and created a community.

So, come on, get writing, get submitting and get reading!

You won’t regret stepping out of your comfort zone, even if horror isn’t your usual genre.
